November 8
Greetings,
Yes...greetings from Vermont where it's dark at 5:00! It's hard for me to get used to this year. I generally like these bleak gray November days, and I guess I do...but it's a bit harder this year to see the sun go so early. Leaves are all off the trees now, and it's a good time to start those new winter mittens and turn the oven on to bake apple cake with the cider that's slightly turned. Stews and soups and biscuits.....
My mom turned 81 on Monday so I spent the day with her. She is physically strong and keeps herself busy, but her dementia is getting worse, though she works hard to hold her own. We had a nice lunch out and I'm sure she's enjoying her signed copy of Rico Petrocelli's new book about the 1067 Red Sox!
Started a neck cowl using Plymouth Baby Brushed...a soft alpaca-acrylic blend. I'm at 4" to the inch on size 8's. Casting on and staying with 83 stitches, the size is just right. I was going to do whatever stitches I felt like at the time...creating a fun mix, but am staying with the alternating straight and seed stitch...pretty. Should be soft, and warm! And I'll need it soon as it's been in the 40's during the day and the 20's at night. Snow flurries too! Pictures of tonight's bags are dull as the day was dark and cloudy...do know the colors are lovely.
So...dark knitting, dark days, early dark nights and dark moon....a good time to let things go.
Stay well and warm good women...and knit on!
Martha.
