December 7
Greetings! For those of you who had trouble with paypal, we found the reason, and it will be corrected by next week. If you do have trouble, just go ahead and purchase the bag with the money order/check option. Then, go to your paypal account and send the proper amount to me at stitcher57@gmavt.net. This way it saves me from sending all the invoices. Much appreciated.
Our first major snow is here, not that it'll amount to much, but we've had so little that this really counts. I purchased yet another pin cushion! Make sure to see her gorgeous work on eBay! Not only are they lovely, but so nice to use as well. Here also is my latest stash from the Salvation Army. I can't resist needles at 50 cents...especially when they throw in everything else they have. Look at the great vintage row counter that came on one of the needles. Cool...and of course it works great.
My mom had her surgery last week is just amazing. It really was just a bump in the road for her...even at 80. Good hardy Norwegian she is for sure!
Ok...the church pew story:
When I was a little girl, we spent the weekends together as a family (imagine that) and usually found ourselves at the river. My dad was a great trout fisherman, and while he fished, we played in the water (far enough away so as not to disturb the trout) or in the nearby fields. But on occasion, we'd happen across an auction. Now back in the early-mid 1960's there weren't many (or any) dealers. So great old houses would be selling off these treasures that my mom would buy 'for a song'. More often than not, they were layred with many horrible shades of paint that she would patiently strip away....to find underneath beautiful wood. One day my dad dropped us off at an auction and he left to fish, but before he left he noticed an old church pew. Right after he left my mom realized he'd taken the wallet and she was left with no money. By the time the church pew came up, he still wasn't back but she couldn't resist and started bidding anyway. The bidding went up...but she got it, only to find out it was my dad who was bidding against her...neither of them knew. The final sale price was $5.00.
I don't know what color it was then, but I remember seeing green and orange as she stripped away the layers. So now the lovely old pine piece lives here with us.
Ok...Happy Birthday Eve to me...I'm 49 tomorrow!
Cheers!
Till next time,
Martha.
